Differences Between Hemp and Cannabis (What You Want to Know!)
Hemp VS Cannabis (You Can Buy Hemp Products Here including CBD Oil Phoenix Manufactured in Arizona)
Hemp/industrial hemp and cannabis are 2 distinctive varieties of the exact same plant type. Hemp is a fiber plant. Marijuana is grown legally as a medicinal crop. Nevertheless, these interpretations have actually become quite confused over the last 60 years. In the last couple of decades, a movement has started to distinguish the terms once again. It is very important to understand the background of usage of these terms in order to remove the complication.
1600-1930’s Hemp’s Lengthy History in The United States And Canada
The word hemp has actually been in the English language for over 800 years. The word marijuana is just 100 years old.
From the first settlers of The United States and Canada up until the 1930’s, hemp was one of the most common terms for Cannabis Sativa fiber plants. Cannabis was never utilized to define hemp fiber plants, which were expanded for canvas, rope, gas oil, and also paper. Hemp fiber plants were historically reduced THC and totally non-psychoactive.
1930’s-1940’s Cannabis tax Act confuses Hemp and also Marijuana
In the 1930’s, the psychedelic (high-THC) selection of cannabis sativa, imported from Mexico, ended up being usual in the southern United States. It was called cannabis, a word promoted through the Reefer Chaos project, to distinguish it from the hemp fiber crops (which no person ever smoked).
In 1937, the wording of the Cannabis Tax Act hopelessly confused the terms hemp and cannabis. For the very first time, Congress defined these distinctive varieties of Marijuana Sativa as being the same. What had actually been generally referred to as hemp was then known (mistakenly) as marijuana.
1950’s Hemp Crops End Up Vanishing
In 1957, the last hemp fiber plant was collected in the U.S. Due to the fact that low-THC Marijuana sativa fiber plants were currently vanished, the word hemp was no longer used and as well it was neglected.
1960’s Marijuana Legalization Movement Begins
In the 1960’s, the psychoactive selection of cannabis sativa (marijuana) became popular among the counter-culture. The motion to legislate cannabis in the 1960’s and also 1970’s did not use the term hemp in reference to marijuana.
1985 Hemp/ Cannabis Movement Starts
In 1985, the word hemp re-surfaced in the book The Emperor Wears No Clothes by Jack Herer. This publication exposed information that had been hidden for almost 40 years about hemp’s historic use as a fiber plant. The book also proclaimed hemp as a solution to contemporary environmental issues.
Since The Emperor discussed cannabis activities and also because it was not commonly understood that low-THC selections of hemp existed in Europe and also Asia, it was believed that cannabis should be legislated to allow industrial uses of hemp. And also due to the fact that it was the environmentalists as well as the counter-culture that began advertising hemp as an alternate fiber plant, they were not taken seriously.
1989 European Farmers Grow Hemp
In Europe, some nations (such as France and Spain) had never stopped producing hemp. In 1989, the European Economic Council created laws to control hemp manufacturing that put on all its member countries. The EEC specified authorized seed varieties for low THC hemp and techniques for screening hemp for THC material.
1993-1994 England and Canada being Growing Hemp
In 1993, England officially acknowledged the differences between hemp and cannabis, to make its farmers part of the EEC. In 1994, Canada, seeing competitors from Europe, permitted hemp manufacturing.
1994 Kentucky Appoints Hemp Task Force
In November of 1994, the Governor of Kentucky, seeing competitors from Canada and Europe, selected a Task Force to examine the business opportunities of hemp in his state.
1994-1995 Hemp/Industrial Hemp Motion Starts in U.S.
For the very first time, farmers, producers, processors, and also agricultural researchers in The United States and Canada started to take a more complete look at hemp as an agricultural plant as well as alternative fiber. Also, the hemp conservationists within the marijuana industry see to it that seed varieties exist to distinguish hemp from cannabis.
This varied union begins utilizing the word industrial hemp (or simply hemp) to refer exclusively to low-THC non-psychoactive varieties of Marijuana Sativa. The goal of the industrial hemp activity is to allow legitimate production of hemp fiber plants and also to explore the ecological advantages of hemp as an alternate fiber, pulp, and also oil resource as well as having industrial applications such as in the power industry.
Jan. 1995 Colorado Legislator Introduces Hemp Regulations
In January 1995, Legislator Lloyd Casey (D-Northglenn), made Colorado the very first state to attempt to define hemp/industrial hemp as distinctive form marijuana when he introduced the Hemp Production Act. Regrettably, the initiative was eliminated as a result of objections from the United States government’s Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Oct. 1995 North American Industrial Hemp Council Formed
In October 1995, the guiding committee of the North American Industrial Hemp Council made commercial hemp a completely distinct legalization issue, differentiating it from the legalization of cannabis.
Jan. 1996 Colorado and also Vermont Introduce Hemp Regulations
Legislators in 2 states presented industrial hemp regulation, Sen. Lloyd Casey (D) from Colorado and Rep. Fred Maslack (R) from Vermont.
Jan. 1996 Support for Hemp Grows
A strong union of varied organizations currently sustains Industrial hemp, including:
American Farm Bureau federation (4.6 million member)
Colorado Farm Bureau
Colorado Division of Agriculture
Colorado State Grange
Kentucky Farm Bureau
Kentucky Hemp Growers Cooperative
Wisconsin Agribusiness Council
Wisconsin Department of Farming
International Paper Company
Bolton Emerson Americas
Colorado Environmental Coalition
Oregon Natural Resources Council
HIA (Hemp Industries Organization)
North American Industrial Hemp Council
The majority of these organizations have specifically stated that they are opposed to the legalization of marijuana. They realize the difference between hemp/industrial hemp as well as cannabis which hemp/industrial hemp can be expanded securely without impacting cannabis regulations, manufacturing, or usage.
Today: Making Progress …
The Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was a proposed law to remove hemp (defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% THC) from Schedule I controlled substances and making it an ordinary agricultural commodity. Its provisions were incorporated in the 2018 United States farm bill that became law on December 20, 2018 (Source: Wikipedia).
However, due to the stigmas that hemp has with cannabis, banks are still not cooperating with small businesses in allowing them to deposit funds collected from hemp sales.
Companies like Hempful Farms are still to this day struggling with this issue. Fortunately there are several possible resolutions in sight for USA legalization of cannabis. If and when this occurs, companies that have had issues being accepted by banks will no longer have to fight for their lives.

Hempful Farms FAQ
What is CBD?
What Does Full Spectrum Mean?
They say cleanliness starts at home-- how does Hempful Farms produce its hemp extract oil, where does it come from?
Hempful Farms has made it a practice to work with the best. With that being said that also means we try to stay with the small “mom and pop” farms. We have been working with a small collective farm our of Oregon. The owner, Dawni Flagg has large farm experience but cares about the products going out more than the bottom line. We have also worked in tandem with Cloud Co farms, out of CO, the owner Luke, is someone we met while being a contestant on the Marijuana Show Season 2. And two of the other farms, NM and KS farms, we helped plant that hemp ourselves!
You have a range of products from topicals, pet treats, CBD oils, edibles, health and beauty products. What do you think make these better than the rest in the market?
There are a few reasons why I feel we gain the competitive edge. One, as we mentioned before, we are a seed to sale business. We literally helped plant the hemp in the ground, We helped source the hemp to the perspective state. We also are very active in testing and R & D. We listen to our customers and what their needs are. Example: Many companies use menthol, Mint, eucalyptus, camphor, and mentholatum. Many of our patients have been through chemo and radiation and these ingredients have different results with chemo and radiation patients. We use more essential oils and organic ingredients when we can.
Aside from CBD oils, topicals, beauty products, merchandise, and pet products, what else can we expect from your upcoming product lines this year?
That’s a great question! We have so much going on! Were looking at expansion, not only in the US, but abroad. Were in talks with a few countries about distribution and franchising. We are also looking to franchise the cafe/retail model of our concepts. Not only do we manufacture and farm, but manufacture and distribute as well. Were not the typical, “carry everyone else’s stuff” kinda store. We carry our own brand and products.
We are also involved in the cannabis space, re-launching our OG Zonka Bars Edible Medible Line. After a ten year hiatus, our artisan hand made chocolates are starting to infiltrate shelves across the state! Check out more at http://ogzonka.com
How did Hempful Farms start? What triggered the development of your first product?
Ironically enough, the Zonka Bars Cannabis Edible Line is what triggered the Hempful Brand. In 2010 we launched our Zonka Medibles in Arizona, as the AMMA and our medical program were coming online. My wife and I were licensed home growers, allowed to grow 12 plants each. Due to the ambiguity in the law, you’re only allowed 2.5 ounces, even with that many plants in harvest. Once we harvested our crop of 20+lbs, we were immediately out of compliance.
We created ZonkaBars Candy bars to help use the flower as medicine and started donating these products to collectives and compassion clubs, veterans and patients alike. 2012 we were raided for 27 total felonies from Criminal Syndication to Manufacturing a Narcotic. I was facing 127 years total.
After 3.5 years fighting in court, we hired a Private Investigator who informed us how crooked the county system was, the more evidence that was brought to light against the police, the less they wanted to go to trial too. Was offered a 2yr plea to avoid trial. I then launched a book, One Life: The Chris Martin Story” https://hempfulfarms.com/product/one-life-the-chris-martin-story/ then in Oct last year launched my Documentary, telling the whole story. https://www.amazon.com/HatersMakeMeFamous-Chris-Martin/dp/B07YYQQLJS
According to Chris Martin, “... hemp should be in your daily life and diet now.” Does incorporating CBD into your daily life increases your chances of failing a drug test? How so?
Honestly, hemp should be apart of your diet because of the photonutrients, cannabinoid levels and amount of Omegas in the plant alone. Hemp Seed, Protein and oils are all great ways to ingest hemp. If you’re using a full spectrum product, our a product that the THC hasn’t been remediated out, while taking a Urine Analysis, you can throw a positive. Youre taking cannabinoids while taking a cannabinoid test. I would def steer clear of full spectrum. While Ive read articles stating that CBD can convert to THC in the ingestion stage, I have not witnessed or experienced this myself but would say, to be sure you don’t fail, avoid full spectrum.
